the event new sculptures are unveiled

Children’s Art & Literacy Comes
Alive Each Year
The ACAC, in partnership
with the NCCIL, hosted the first
CALF in 2012, featuring the incredible
work from Dr. Suess.
Each year the CALF continues to
grow. More than 4,600 people
from 156 Texas cities and 26
states attended last year’s festival.
Last year featured artist and
author Loren Long, of the “Otis”
series of books and now Apple
TV cartoon series. This year, for
the 10th Annual Festival, Sophie
Blackall will be the first women
artist and author featured in a decade
of festivals. Sophie won her
first Caldecott Honor for illustrating
“Finding Winnie,” written by
Lindsay Mattick in 2015. She won
her second Caldecott in 2018 for
her stunning original work “Hello
Lighthouse,” which she both illustrated
and wrote. Sophie’s iconic
